The 50’s exhibition is a must for fashion fans

Exhibitions & Museum
Here at Cristal Champs Elysees, we like to keep an eye on stylish events in our beautiful city, and the 50’s exhibition at Palais Galleria from July 12th to November 2nd is set to be one of the most prestigious exhibitions of the year. The 1950’s was one of the most important decades in women’s fashion, and this superb show explores the impact the decade had on how we dress.

The "New Look" of the 50's

In 1947, Christian Dior presented his first collection to the world, and it was to put Paris firmly back on the fashion map. World War II had just ended, and people were revelling in their new found freedom. Dior‘s collection featured nipped in waists, full skirts and pronounced bust lines and was dubbed ‘The New Look’.  It was to become the catalyst for a new age in fashion.

As the 1950’s dawned, other designers presented equally striking collections. Some of the most notable included Balmain’s ‘barrel line’ with its flowing waist and back, and Chanel’s inspired 1954 collection of simple straight suits.

Cocktail dresses, strapless dresses,  wasp-waisted suits, corolla skirts and pointed shoes were just a few of the exciting looks , and you can see them at Palais Galleria alongside the carefree jeans, pedal pushers, and figure hugging sweaters  that were being adopted by a new generation. The Hotel Cristal Champs Elysees is ideally situated for a visit to Palais Galleria, and our friendly staff will be delighted to offer directions. Why not stop off at Paris Plages? The sandy beaches that have transformed the bank of the River Seine are a delightful place to relax after a day at the 50’s exhibition!
